Hello my names Cate Marsden and currently I am the Outreach Lead of the Ladywood Outreach Service and work in the West Cluster 10. I am TLR for Teaching Schools and mentor trainees for Ladywood and Edge Hill.
I have worked in Bolton from being a NQT and always had a passion for helping children and young people with special educational needs. I had previously been Assistant Head and SENCo in Mainstream schools in Bolton and joined the SENIAs team in 2010. We moved to Ladywood in 2011 and are currently based in LW2.
My name is David Barrett and I am the lead teacher for the Ladywood Outreach SpLD Team. Our team works across the entire borough and aims to assist children, young people and schools in identifying and accommodating possible specific learning difficulties. This could involve assessments, suggested strategies, monitoring of progress or staff training.
I have worked in schools for 12 years, historically as a mainstream secondary teacher and have always had a large passion for working with children with additional educational needs. This led to my main role in school as being the special educational needs co-ordinator. This role allowed me to work with young people with a range of needs and really increased my enthusiasm and motivation for helping remove barriers to learning and to help such pupils realise their full potential.
Through further study and experience I now work specifically with pupils displaying SpLD learning characteristics. This allows me to work in a very privileged position as it is very rewarding to be able to support schools, make children and young people aware of their own set of strengths and weaknesses and be able to suggest accommodations to classroom practice which will help these bright pupils fully access the curriculum.
